The definition of Health according to WHO is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being. As for Optimal health, it consists of 7 pillars which are proper diet, supplements, exercise, sleep/rest, water, avoiding risk factors, positive mental attitude and healthy social & spiritual interaction. Today, chronic diseases are the leading cause of death (i.e. heart and lung diseases) in most developed and developing countries. Hence, it is important for us to be aware of the causes, effects and preventive measures concerning this pandemic.
The main causes of chronic diseases are due to poor diet, nutritional deficiency, toxic food ingredients, and lack of exercise, all of which are under our control. Losses from these diseases extend beyond one’s personal health – as it also affects individual and national livelihood, productivity and finances. To prevent these diseases, some of the most important factors are a proper balanced diet, taking enough clean water and bridging the nutritional gaps through taking good supplements.
